Yes. This. “It’s realizing that loving competition often means loving your competitors.” Life isn’t either/or, this brutal zero-sum game that seems to be dominating world culture right now. We can win by helping each other level up. And we do that by being our best, and challenging others to also bring their A game, every time.

This is also a good perspective for parents watching youth sports. Your kid doesn’t have to win! They need to respect their competition and do their best.

Better check your Latin meaning for petere. It means to ‘strive’ or ‘seek’ or ‘pursue’. It does not mean ‘to rise up’.

The tennis stars are competing meaning that they are ‘striving together’ making each one a better player.
