The End of Reading
Save your brain, be the counterculture.
Y’all—A new Atlantic cover story, “The Age of Reading is Over,” is, for lack of better terms, terrifying.
51% of adults read 0 books a year. Only 16% read daily.
Reading has declined by 43% over the last 20 years. The decline cuts across age, gender, and race.
No wonder it seems like all the serious people have disappeared.
The synthetic slop revolution is doing to our brains what the industrial revolution did to our bodies.
Save your brain.
Read a book.
Be the counterculture.
Reading a book is like going to the gym, but for your brain. You may be uncomfortable at first, but focus is a muscle you can rebuild. It’s hard at first (especially if you’re out of practice), but it gets easier with reps, just like any other skill. Eventually, it becomes enjoyable. Be patient and stick with it. It’s worth it.
Whether your a voracious reader who is out of practice or someone who hasn’t read many books before, now is the time to get as serious about reading books and your cognitive health as you are about your body and your physical health.
Refuse to doomscroll.
Read a book.
Reject AI slop.
Read a book.
F*ck the machine.
Read a book.

P.s., If you want to read more books and also protect your brain and essential humanness—your ability to think your own thoughts and feel alive—then I’ve got a book for you!! It’s highly accessible; you can read it in a few days; and it’s currently $7 dollars off for a summer promotion. Get your copy here. I’m so confident you’ll like it that if you don’t, I’ll Venmo you you’re money back.

Well, I paid a lot more than $7 for my copies. They were worth every penny. Considering all the effort you put into creating that book, it seems like an insult for it to go for $7.
